Manufacturing process for cask or stave wood for wine barrels
To select, cut, work, and control the oak … each stage of the oak barrel manufacturing process calls upon the professional experience of the Canadell company. In order to preserve the quality of water tightness, the criteria for respecting the wood thread is constant at each stage of production.
The trunks are cut to become logs, then split to quarters and processed further to become wood for cooperage (Merrains) or cask(stave) wood. Only the noblest part of wood is used.
Each log and each production of stave-wood is carefully followed to guaranty traceability.
Preparation of wood for barrels
The Canadell cask wood is sold green and dry.
To guaranty a homogeneous result during the wood drying process, it is carefully piled up and exposed.
Washing with natural water is done to remove the most aggressive tannins.
The two sites of Trie Sur Baïse and of Ully Saint Georges have optimal climatic conditions to achieve a perfect maturing of the cask wood.
